Looks and sounds terrific! I am jealous as hell and wish I could get mine unstuck from the body shop so I could get to that point! The dash did look good and it looks like you are using stock gauges. How did you get them to work with the Ford engine?

So, if your headers are coated, how did they handing the cam breakin?

You know, I was afraid of the things I had read about the ceramic coating and the cam break-in, but I notice no difference at all, no discoloration or anything noticable.
I will keep you posted if I see any changes coming up.

Jim:
The oil pressure gauge hooks up as the stock engine and the temp gauge; I used the alpine sending unit, the jury is still out on that one though, as the sending unit that I received was shorted out, so I have to order another one.

Jim,

The stock sender from the 74 Mustang made my temp gauge read at top of scale. I ordered a new sender from our friends at SS and it now reads 200°F. My infared themometer says the output coolant, and the housing where the sender resides is 180°F, so it's off a bit, but then so is my fuel gauge.

The tachometer can be calibrated to work with the V6 if it's components are stable. If not, I've heard that Tom H. might do some replacement of the unstable components and calibrate.

Speedometers are another story....

There is a Smiths electronic speedometer that looks very similar to the original available for $300-$400. Another option is to have a ratio box built to match the T5 gear to the Alpine gauge, however my inquires indicate that you might spend almost as much as the electronic speedometer. Of course the advantage of the electronic is that you can calibrate it for different tire diameters as you desire.

Jose told me that if you use the finest sppedo gear available for the T5, your Alpine gauge will read about 10% high.

Hope this helps...

Thanks Kelly. How about the speedo and the tach?

HI, Jim:

The Tach, I sent to Tom Hayden and he calibrated it for me, and I think he did an update to it and it works great.
The Speedometer is as Rich Gordon has said earlier, I will probably save my money and buy one of the Smith's Cobra Series electronic speedometers, so at least it will have the same look.

Gordon,

If both your temp and fuel gauge read high I would suspect the "voltage stabilizer" for the gauges is either stuck closed, bypassed, or missing altogether (and bypassed).

Thanks Tom,

Under normal circumstances I'd agree with you. However, in this case I suspect a poor ground connection to the Ed Essenger instrument regulator.

I just haven't taken the time to investigate.

Hey:

I had my exhaust installed today and below are a few shots of it. It sounds like a V8 with those turbo mufflers under the trunk, looks cool too. These guys did a great job and it was only $550.00.

Now that the exhaust is on, I can hear the motor and was glad to not hear the valve train; I followed the V6 Jose method of adjusting the valves and they are as quiet as can be.

Did I mention that I am thoroughly thrilled with the way this whole conversion turned out?:D

I ordered a K&N air cleaner today from Jegs.

Looks good.
I did notice one thing though, and it may be just the angle the picture was taken from. I would try to relocate the brake line a bit farther away from the header.

How 'bout some audio of the exhaust now. The video of the cam break in with the open headers sounded a bit like a p!$$ed off bumble bee.;)

Here you go, Mike:

A short video of my V6 Conversion running with turbo mufflers; sounds pretty good if I do say so.

Also, you were right about the camera angle, believe it or not those brake lines are about 5" away from the headers; nice and cool.

Hey Kelly,

You´ve done a great job and it sounds delicious. That cam lopes just enough to make the engine not sound like a V6, doesn´t it?

Jose

p.s. What did you do to your Alpine today, or where did you go with it?

Glad to see you ran the pipes the way Jose suggest. I think this is much easier and cleaner installation than going thru the cross member. I picked up some heat paint at a autoparts store and sprayed the pipes black. The pipes are hardly noticed from the side when the car is on the ground and the paint is still intact 16,000 miles later. Good Show.
