HI All,
I"ve got a 1967 Alpine with V6. I've finally got everthing replaced, and it does run. Problem is that it will run for 15 - 20 seconds then quit.
Prior to trying to start I pulled the tanks, boiled and resealed. The fuel pump and filter are both working correctly, even the filter at the carb is clean and flowing.
All of the external lighting works fine, turn signals and flashers are working, but the dash lights don't illuminate.
I did notice there's a wire bundle that when it sags, the car shuts down, no electric at all. There's also a large green colored, shunt, or heat sink, that gets very hot as the car stops.
I've changed the points, plugs, wires, but still have the coil that came with the car. When it's running, it runs well, but as soon as the green piece heats up the car shuts down.
I'm looking for anyone that can give me some advice on how to fix. I plan on rewiring the car over the winter, but need to car running now.
I've looked at the series V wiring diagram from the site, but I think the previous owner took some liberties with wiring this and using some of the Capri harness. Like I said, when it runs it seems to run fine, but it only runs for 30 seconds at most.
I appreciate the blogs, but would really appreciate talking to someone with some answers. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks in advance for your help.
