My clutch is not working. We replaced slave cylinder and rebuilt Clutch Master Cylinder. Still no clutch. Bled it so many times lost count. Can't buy new clutch master cylinder for my IV according to Rick Sunbeam Specialties. Slave is not leaking but not enough pressure to move clutch.

Line is in the right place too....don't know what else to look for....Any suggestions....

I'm assuming you have the original type master and slave, so what was the condition of the bores in both when rebuilt?? Pitting or grooves in them can cause fluid to flow around the seals and you won't get pressure. Also, when hooked up is the line to the slave in the lower port and th ebleeder in the upper?? If reversed then no matter how many times you bleed you'll still have an air bubble in the slave and that will make it not function. Do you have the slave on the transmission side of the bellhousing?? Should be there otherwise the pushrod isn't long enough and you could even pop the slave piston out of the cylinder.

I would guess that one of these is the issue, but without being there to look it over these are only the most common faults.

I'm assuming this is a continuation of the clutch issues you posted about back in Dec 2013. Did you or your husband ever verify that the clutch rod (the part between the slave and the tranny) ever move with the pedal depressed?

Sometimes when the clutch is bled the fluid gets churned or full of air from an over enthuiastic foot.Try bleeding it slowly. This happened to me once.I let it sit and came back and everything was fine.
Your problem reminds me of a gal l know. l advised her give her car frequent oil changes....She changed her oil three times....

have you put the slave on the right side of the engine/bell housing ? when i put my one back on the car it was on the wrong side and the rod was out too far  if its on the wrong side you will not have enough pressure to move clutch

Clutch problems

I have a V but i had a problem with clutch pressure. Make sure you have the air out of the slave. Is the car jack up from the front? the angle will allow the air to escape up. Also can try bleeding from the bottom up with a pump bleeder. either one should work.

Yes we have and have had it checked out to be sure. I think Mike Phillips is correct. As we have changed slave now twice and rebuilt master cylinder....and found wet oily residue on firewall that the master is no good....we are going to replace it. We have other classic cars my husband has 64 nova and works on his own and mine all the time. So he knows how the slave works etc and where to put it. We have bled the clutch with car jacked up in front and tried all the suggestions all of you have given to no avail. It seems that there is very little pressure from the Master cylinder and the slave is not leaking fluid. However like Mike says there might be pits etc that makes the master not function correctly. Soooo we are going to replace the master and see what happens. I appreciate all of your suggestions as usual and hope that this fixes the problem. IF not I will probably contact Randy Willet who is down the street from me and see if he can figure it out. He rebuilds and repairs Sunbeams. FRUSTRATED

re clutch etc

Have you got the slave mounted with the inlet at the top and the bleed screw below. You may have checked this but you cannot fully bleed the system of air unless it is this way round.

if the slave unit has air in it you can push the piston/bar back in by hand make sure you have the bleed nipple open or the master cylinder overflow
