I have received 2 of these PM's. The strange thing is I actually had the virus related to these people. I think it was a Trojan caught from Webshots.
Anyway, I assumed someone must know about it because the sender account status shows up as "banned". Seems they then try a new account name, always using some variation of ForumModerator, ForumTeam, ModeratorTeam, etc... Then the message title is something like "Important Message from your Forum Admin..."
AS OTHERS HAVE STATED: DON"T CLICK ON THE LINKS IN THESE PM's! I do not think you can get anything by merely opening the PM, but you could be doubly safe and just delete them without even opening them.
I attached a jpeg of the message.
So very early this morning I got this scam message before an alert was given. Since it came to me as a PM I unknowingly clicked on the link and am now getting pop-ups every 45 seconds to purchase Security Tool software. How do I get rid of this?
Thanks, Mark
Did some research and found that this beast has been making the round for several weeks and lots of forums have been attacked.
FWIW, a tracert to www.security-tool2010.com goes to 115.100.250.109 which is in China.
Several security sites have suggestions for removal, but this one is straightforward and free:

Don't want this to happen again? First, stop using any version of Internet Explorer for web browsing. All of the browsers have some issues, but IE uses Active-X controls which are a security disaster looking for a place to happen. Second, install a GOOD anti-malware program. I use Kaspersky Internet Security, but there are others that work just as well.
Using a Mac or running Linux (are you laughing Bill Blue?) is an effective solution since the bad guys go after the low hanging fruit and that is Windows + Internet Explorer.
Is Mozilla Firefox better for a browser?

...Cant the forum SW at least tag these folks that they need "qualified" prior to allowing them to post or PM?
Biography=Man or 1 is a sure giveaway.
