I doubt that there are more than five purely stock Alpines in this country. Most guys upgrade this or that part, to make the car more functional, reliable, or simply a bit better looking. The stock section was for Alpine four cylinder powered cars.

When the modified section was initiated, it was to get the V6 mods out from the stock section, because some guys didn't want to read about it. It wasn't made to keep any/all modification out.

We still have a stock series 3 GT.It has always been stock since we got it back in 1972. Number 3 son has it and it will always be stock.
I'm sure there are many more than 5 completly stock alpins around.I'm not talking personalized but stock.

Are either of the pictures real? I ask because the front wheels look like they fit correctly in the wheel well, which rarely seems to happen with non-standard (anything not specifically made for an Alpine or Tiger) wheels.

The pictures are fake...but the wheels will work with some limitations. The problem is the Sunbeam front suspension is way wider than what American companies did with their vehicles.

You need to use the 5" wide Weld Racing wheel in the front. It only comes with a 3.5" backspacing. So you either need to use a 185/55/15 tire (not a lot of choices for tires)...or you need to have the inside of the wheel widened to 5.5" or wider if you wish to accept a 195/50/15 tire (a more standard size tire with better selection).

To further bring the front wheels in more...1/8" can safely be milled off the backside of the lug area on the Draglites/Rodlites.

I am using Panasports on my car and the total cost of Panasports/Tires verses Draglites/Widening/Tires verses Rodlites/Widening/Tires is a minimal difference...all cost about the same.

You can see my brief tire story on my website at...

And there are some front wheel drive cars...like Ford Escort and Ford Focus that can be used. The wheels have a close to perfect offset on the fronts but then the rear wheels are tucked way too far in without the use of spacers. Mainly, you can see why people use Minilites/Superlites/Panasports...they seem to be the simpliest, most direct solution.

Wow…some of you guys are as intense as Concourse Corvette owners. You know, the kind of guys who get into a fist fight with the judges of a show because they do not agree on the direction or color of the stitching in the upholstery as being original.

Hi Chuck,

Since your Alpine is outside the U.S., it doesn't count in the five I mentioned.:D I was exagerating a bit, in order to make a point. I doubt that there very many that don't have something that didn't come from the factory with it.

I wanted to clarify why there are two sections, so explained that originally, it was just meant to signify the V6 converted cars. If it still had the Alpine four cylinder, it was OK in stock section, that's all.:)

Hi Duke,

You haven't seen anything. A couple of years ago, there was a big howl about which color, which options, etc......, came with the cars. It got pretty heated at times. Was funny, really. Since these cars were all a little different, because the factory ran out of certain parts and then substituted another, some guys want to swear that it only came the way their particular car came. There is also the DPO factor. Most of these cars have been messed with, so they aren't pure anymore. It all sounds silly to me, but then I'm no purist, so I won't judge. All I know, is that I loved my modified Alpine more than anyone loves his pure stock Alpine. I also enjoyed them more too, because I could and would, drive them every day.

Thanks Paul. I won't be buying anything until my SIV V6 is closer to getting on the road (some day), but I definitely do not want stock wheels on it, so I am always on the lookout for options. I have often thought Focus/Escort wheels might work with some tweaking, but have never heard anyone who actually used them. The information on your website is very good and will be helpful when the time comes. (BTW: I used to have a Focus and have always been sorry I never tried test fitting a wheel.)

I only mentioned mine as I was not in agreement with Jose's statement of only 5 stock Alpines. 2 of my Alpines are so modified that I really don't care one way or the other.I do appreciate all cars as to what their owners may or may not have done to them.
I love doing some of the stuff I have done in the past. Its almost I would rather work on them as well as drive them

Mod or stock

Not to worry Chuck, I just moved the thread to modified so that everyone is happy.

I would hate everyone to get on the kick of mod to stock again, I just love my Alpine and seeing everyone at the Invasion, mod, stock or what ever, it was all good.

"I NEED AN ALPINE FIX REAL BAD" with all this snow and cold I am about to ready to pull my hair from its ROOTES! :D

Jim, if you are looking for a set of wheels that fit, look into Stockton Wheels. They can make up a set of steel 14" or 15" wheels to about any specification. They don't offer much in the way of alloy wheels, though.

http://www.stocktonwheel.com/

By the way, I saw a Tiger wearing a set of 14" Tempo wheels a few years ago. Could not tell if he had to use spacers, owner was not around. Looked pretty good. I swapped Focus wheels onto my sons Tempo, had to use 1/4" spacers. Might be because the Focus wheels were much wider. Be aware the Escorts from about 1990 up use 110mm spacing, not 108.

Sorry, my fault...I meant to type CONTOUR...not Escort. A Ford Contour uses the 4 x 108mm pattern.

Also you can see a Tiger with widened stock steel wheels on my website...noty sure where they were done.

The 5.00' back sapcing is too much. The tire will hit the rear springs for sure, and I think it would hit the front suspension too. That wheel sounds like a front wheel drive application.

Jose

Do you guys think these specs would fit:

14x6"
38mm offset
5.00 Backspacing

with 185/60's ?

Spacers needed?

I TOTALLY agree. If it still has the factory engine/drivetrain, I just don't see it in section with homemade V6/V8 conversions (Or Zetec turbo's for that matter). No insult intended to those folks that have a lot of work in their cars, and I fully respect that to be sure.

Contour and Focus are on the 4X108 and being front drive applications will likely be a problem. I have both a Focus and an Alpine, (and my son has 2 SVT Contours....) I should try it out sometime just to see.

More pics please.
