Zenith 36 WIA Diaphrams

I have just finished rebuilding a pair of Zenith WIA 36 carburators for my Series II and am desparately searching for a pair of "Economy Diaphrams" for the power jets. The brass shafts are badly worn and I need to find a pair in reasonable "useable" condition. I had the bodies re-bushed but it's of no use if I can't get useable diaphrams and I expect most will have badly worn brass shafts. Are there suppliers of such Zenith carb parts on the other side of the pond?

Hello Eddie (AlpineII)
in case you didn't see this previous forum posting I will copy text below for your perusal.

Hi Scott,

I can recommend:-

www.gowerlee.dircon.co.uk/
They rebuilt mine very nicely and have a number of NEW Zenith WIAs and WIPS for sale. These are for Rapiers and other Rootes types but apart from possibly incorrect throtle linkages they should be fine but I'm no expert on choke dims and jetting. They also hold a huge amount of ex stock for every type of carb,

Also there are...

www.burlen.co.uk ( a very highly regarded carb uber specialist) although i have not used them.

Try also the Carb hospital - www.carburettorspecialists.com/
I bought a pair of NOS alpine 1600 twin WIPs, the last pair they had (sorry) but they have more non alpine 36 WIPs & WIAs

I hope this helps

If your series II has the "By-pass valve diaphragms", the new diaphragms are not made like the originals, and I doubt if they will work. The new diaphragms do not have the bellows molded into the sheet rubber like the originals, so its not going to work as well (if at all) like they are supposed to. I have reused the old diaphragms again, as well as the float needle & seat. Again, as I have mentioned before, the only quality parts in the Zenith rebuild kits are just the gaskets.

I have a pair on order from Gower Lee and they should arrive in a couple of weeks. I will let you know what they are like.
