Volvo OD

When I got my Harrington LeMans, it had a series V transmission without OD. The original transmission, with the OD main shaft, came with it, but the original OD unit was missing. The previous owner had obtained a Volvo type D overdrive unit from a P1800. This was fitted to the original transmission. The output is a flange rather than a sleeve. After installation, an MGB driveshaft was cut and rewelded to length. The original speedo cable would not fit up, as the Volvo had an 18 mm 1.5 pitch metric thread (on the speedo gear retainer shaft) I had a new speedo cable "cup" attached to the original cable sheath by Speedometer and Alternator Service in Colorado (www.speedoservice.com). Only $45, with a new square speedo cable included.
This might be an option for those looking for an OD. The hardest part to source would likely be the longer main transmission shaft to fit the OD unit. David

Appears to be like a HD truck "two piece" drive shaft.

The MGB drive shaft has a sliding component with about an inch of possible travel I believe
