This mornings "tax cheat" announcement

Sownman

Donation Time
This morning the President as well as his treasury secretary and chief of staff
stood up to announce the new aggressive stance towards corporations
use of offshore facilities and tax codes to try to avoid some portion of taxation that would be considered fair by his administration.

Laff one with this is the fact that corporations do not pay taxes, not now not ever. Tax them all you want, remove deductions all you want, it is all passed on to the consumer. The poor will pay $37 instead of $21 for Levis at Walmart

However there was another even better laff available. It is a wonderful thing to watch Obama stand next to Geithner while Geithner explains going after tax cheats. Obama then tells us paying taxes is the price of citizenship.

Priceless.

and in the meantime there is a bill in the house that will put the Gov in charge of all college loans...

fancy that....

remember when Clinton, Kerry and others were saying that kids entering college now shouldn't go after positions like lawyer, specialty medicines but rather be teachers and other things that are needed....(what? the gov wants to determine what is needed and then pursuade you from your own personal goals?)

so, my conspiratorial mind says.... maybe this is a way to determine what is in the best interest of the country. Control the loans, control the kids, control the banks (or make them impudent) and you have the Progressive Utopia....Each according to his need, each according to his ability to pay.

I wonder what color clothing they are going to pick out for us to wear? I hope it's not green, it clashes with my eyes.

Hopefully it will be just a bit over three years. Hopefully, the American electorate will wake up, that is if he hasn't irretrieveably ruined our country by then.

Pointless. Thousands of Americans died, plus tens of thousands of civilians. Yep, about as pointless as invading Japan and Germany. Or getting involved in Korea. Hundreds of thousands of Americans died, and over a million civilians. And dammit, what the hell did they get for all that slaughter?

Um. Being rid of feudal and/or military dictatorships and being given the chance to form, with our direction, three of the greatest industrial powerhouses and stable democracies on earth.

As for Iraq, freeing them from 30 years of one of the most murderous dictators and his clique, who murdered hundreds of thousands by bullet and poison gas. I guess it's easy to forget, 6 years on, the dozens of pits, each containing 20-30,000 bodies, including children and mothers with their babies in their arms. People with their throats cut and their tongues pulled through the slit, left in the street as examples to anyone else who might utter a word against Saddam. The rape rooms, staffed, unbelievably, by essentially civil service professional rapists; men being ofrced to watch their wives, mothers and daughters raped in front of them.

What America has done, what President Bush did, was to give the people of Iraq the chance to imitate Japan, etc. That is all anyone can do. They have taken the first step to form a democracy, and despite occasional outbreaks, terrorism is way down from even two years ago. Time will tell.

President Bush also took the fight to the enemy overseas in Afghanistan, where Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda had set up shop in the years prior to 9/11, plotting the destruction of the United States and the establishment of a global Islamist caliphate. Some forget that for eight years under Clinton, al-Qaeda had free run in the Taliban-run country, setting up camps where thousands of insurgents were trained and sent out into the world, some to this country.

Today, in most of Afghanistan, women can once more leave their houses without male family escorts, drive, throw away their burkhas; girls can go to school again, people can play music and watch movies.

And Bush got rid of all the WMD's, the taliban and al-queda are gone, fundamentalism is over, there is world peace, global financial stability and prosperity, environmental security ... yeah thats what we have now.... thanks Big "W"

And Bush got rid of all the WMD's,

actually, the carivan of semi's leading to Syria are believed to be where they went AND the reasons we went there were not solely based on WMD's. The world needed a base of operations that would slow down the destablization of the area brought on by Hussein and his madness. Which has occured.

the taliban and al-queda are gone,

No. As long as poverty and psychotic zealots live, these groups will always be here. But we decimated there ranks and sent them out of Iraq, back into the foothills. Oh, and since Lord Obama has promiced to fight the Taliban in Afghanastan, what's your point?

fundamentalism is over

I'm not sure what this speaks too. Christian fundies? Muslims? Because someone has fundmental beliefs doesn't make them suicide bombers. If that is the reference, the suiciders are shrinking in size.

there is world peace

That is a lofty goal, now isn't it. One that all our elected Presidents would love to be part of. No president in our lifetime has seen it, so your point is what again?

global financial stability and prosperity,

Now you're cooking. Let's just pass over the fact that the U.S. is not responcible for "global" and agree that being the greatest economy on the planet does have an effect on others. It is always the president that gets credit or blame for the economy when he LEAVES office or when he ENTERS it. Bill Clinton got credit for Reagan's Boom. Bush gets blamed for the Congresses criminal behavior. You would not have had this point in your "blame Bush" arsenal if he had left office two years ago. Which, coincidentally, is when the people, in a fit of lunacy, turned this nation over to libeals like Poloci, Dodd, Franks, Fienstein and Reid. You want to find out why we're in such a mess now? Do some research. These boneheads forced (by way of the Clintonian bill), yes under Bush's watch, banks to give out bad loans and artificially inflated the housing bubble. Two years ago, Bush's aids in a formal hearing brought up concerns that Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were in trouble, but Franks and his cronies basically told them to shut up and go away. Yeah, Bush brought down the whole world. Stop the hate, mate.

environmental security

I certainly hope that this doesnt have anything to do with the the Global Warming scam? I hope that it means that we havn't yet tapped into our energy resources like we should. More coal, drilling for oil off our coasts and in the Anwar. Nuclear power plants (France keeps building them, why can't we?)

Bush is not my favorite president. He let me down more than he let you down, you never liked him (assumption). But all that you list is not the sole responcibility of one man and his staff. It is the kind of silly fodder that gets reactions and high fives from those that fill their heads with convienient "one liners".

Since you directed your quote to me, Nick, I'll put my two cents in also. I think it was over the top. We all have to be careful to not start with the slag. It goes no where and distracts from the points that are made. I do not consider anyone that disagrees with me, no matter how simpleton their stance is, to be anything but someone that loves this country in a different way.

We all have to come to a understanding that those bastards in our government win when we are at each others throat. They designed it that way. If I can't persuade those I believe to be "lost" with common sense and plain truth, then I move on.

If it hadn't been for the fact that I was once a card carrying anarchist, I may not be as compasionate. I just know that sometimes spouting the nonsense over and over is just a drill and not necessarily a well thought out passion. I had a family member, calmly discuss with me, with respect for my views, all of my "talking points" and he proceeded to destroy each one with history, facts and common sense. That's all I hope to do.

I may stray off the farm from time to time, but you know how frustrating it can be to deal with the brainwashed masses. And although I'm cussing out my fellows in my office, I'm going to refrain from posting anything that would hurt their feelings.

A bit touchy feely, but I guess thats just me.

:)
