Sunbeam Alpine: Raising the gearing.

This video shows how our Series V Alpine with overdrive performs with the gearing raised by fitting a 3.89 differential in place of the 4.22 to make it a more long-legged tourer.

Together with some other minor changes the end result delivers a very smooth, quiet and much more economical car. This is a modification that is highly recommended as the only down side is a slight reduction in 0-60 time which in real world driving you will not notice.

In June 2023 we discovered that the Differential in this car is actually a rare 3.7 NOT the 3.89 that we thought was in there (and that we refer to in the video) The car pulls the 3.7 with no problem and is highly tractable with it losing no noticeable acceleration. This higher gearing goes some way to explain the relaxed motorway cruising and high miles per gallon that we achieve.
