Starter solenoid available locally?

I'm having trouble actuating the starter. I've tried all troubleshooting methods found on this forum and I think I've narrowed it down to an issue with the solenoid. Has anyone been able to find something that works from a local auto parts store? Or is this something that needs to be ordered from SS? Dont get me wrong, I'd love to give business to a fellow sunbeam enthusiast. I'm just a little impatient and don't want to wait for shipping on this one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I wouldn't see a problem with using a ford solenoid it just wouldn't have the ever so handy push button on it.

starter

the solenoid with the button has been NLA for many years. if not used the button tends to stick when you do use it.

That's good news. I just saw it was NLA at Sunbeam Specialties. My push button doesn't work right now so I guess I wont miss it. Thanks for the input gentlemen.

TR2s used essentially the same solenoid and they are readily available with the push button. As I recall, there is one additional terminal on the Alpine version that isn't on the TR2 starter, but I was able to use one several years ago. I don't remember how I wired it, but think I got help from someone here. It worked fine for many years until I switched to a gear reduction starter with integral solenoid.

Yep the FoMoCo unit works just fine. I have one on my Tiger.

Mike,
I have the pictured solenoid if you want it. My car had a v6 conversion in 1977 and has a starter mounted solenoid. The pictured has not bolted to the firewall since, I have no idea if it works.

Thanks for the input Jon. That actually looks a lot like the one I have already. (I'm not even sure mine is an original Alpine part to be honest). I'll have to look into that as well.

It's a pretty simple matter to wire in a push button to a remote ford solenoid. I put one on my 72 blazer. (yes - chevy with a ford solenoid). The remote solenoid solved the sticking chev starter solenoid on hot days behind headers. The self-help built push button helped whenever I was under the hood of the blazer.....quite common.

Well just thought id send an update. Replace the stock solenoid with the ford unit and the starter turned right over. No push button but that doesn't bother me too much.
