Had trouble with the starter yesterday (64 S3 GT). No spin. On disassembly found a bad conections where the terminal on the starter end plate meets the windings a fork and bar connection. Looks like it's supposed to be soldered, I Re sweated it on and now works fine. But I was thinking of replacing the starter, any Recommendations for a replacement? Thanks.

I use a gear reduction starter. they list them for Alpine but do not get the one from Vitoria British or get one that is listed for a 4.2 liter Jag, it has the right travel for the ring gear.

Go to a nearby auto parts store and ask for a rebuilt starter for a 72 MG midget. It's the same starter as on our Alpines, but most parts stores do not list parts for Sunbeams. In the US you can buy one for about $60 exchange, with a lifetime warranty. Probably more expensive in Canada

Why, its fixed! The new part might have the same problem you just fixed. Better the devil you know than one you don't. I've replaced way too many old, but working parts with new, but no good ones.
