You fill the reservoir close to the top with fluid, you bleed the system until no bubbles are exiting the slave cylinder. Check the level of fluid in the reservoire FREQUENTLY. If it empties and you suck air into the system, you are starting over. When done you fill the reservoir and put the cap on. The volume in the system is a don't care.
My method of bleeding requires two people.
Equipment needed:
small mason jar
rubber or clear vinyl hose that is a tight fit over the end of the bleed screw.
Box end wrench to fit bleed screw.
Fresh bottle of brake fluid.
Pour brake fluid into mason jar approx 1 inch deep.
Box wrench on bleed screw
Hose pressed onto bleed screw
Other end submerged into fluid in mason jar.
Fill reservoir.
Seat second person behind the wheel.
Crack open bleed screw 1/2 turn.
Call out "Down". Person depresses clutch to floor and HOLDS THERE.
You close bleed screw. Call out "UP".
Person lets out clutch like you were driving. ie at moderate speed, not side stepping the pedal.
Repeat last 4 steps until the fluid exiting the hose is clean and free of bubbles.
Check fluid reservoir every third or 4 th pedal depression.
