Series V carbs

 Hello,

While resolution of my clutch pipe issue is underway, I am moving onward to the fuel system.

A replacement fuel pump is somewhere in the mail, and I am ordering a rebuild kit.

One thing....which carbs do best for a Series V engine?

My Series IV has a Series V engine with dual Series II Zenith 36 WIP-3 carbs. I can send a pic if anybody wants one. So far I don't see a "front" or "
"rear" indication on either. Both appear the same except one looks much newer.

"Assuming" the arrangement actually works, and not counting the parts difficulties of the older Zeniths, can the Zeniths do the job very well?

Or is it time to move on to a Weber setup?

I'm sure a Weber is easier to maintain, and to keep properly adjusted, but all such things being equal, does a pair of Zenith 36 WIP-3's perform as well?

What tuning options are at play?

Thanks for any insight or comments on this.

Not sure how a cut n past will work, but here are some facts n figures on the older Zeniths:

SV carbs

Allen, I installed a 5 engine in the Pumpkin last fall, the 32/36 Weber was a bit unclean but claening and leaving sit in a can of gas worked well. The the tuning part, I tried linkage for several trips only to be triped up by it, throttlle sticking at the wrong place was the pits.

Also the inital tune, no way, I fought it several times. Then My smarty pants son 36yrs, says Weber eh?, pull the stupid linkage loose then tune it ,, then go to a cable.. I went to a Toyota junk yard picked out a few cabels and finally adapted one.. Runs great!!:D 30 mpg
I would say find a good carb with an intake and set it up to run..
Now that being said' the 150cds work real well " with the 1725, in fact set up right thay can give many a run for the bucks.

Allan,

If the down draft Zeniths are working then stick with them. Technically, they perform better than the 150's.... not that the 150's are bad but the Zenith's are known to have better performance. (assuming two sets of carbs in equally good condition)
