With the rest of the mechanicals being Ferrari derived it's a little surprising that the gearbox is so, ordinary. You'd have expected a Ferrari box behind a Ferrari engine considering how Enzo was about his products.

Ferrari didnt used to make their own boxes, most used a ZF or Colotti.

Most likely (and this is just an assumption on my part), the ZF and Colotti offerings was too big for such a small engined car.

Though it probably could have made sense to seek out a fiat trans.

Not surprising. They also used the Sunbeam box behind the Lotus engine in the Jensen-Healey, too.

the trans in the jenson healey was the box from the fastbacks. it has different ratios than the series 5 alpines.

I had 2 Jensen Healey's and rebuilt both gearboxes. 1 a 5 sp and the other a 4 sp. Neither were Sunbeam boxes.
