S IV Metal Windsheild Frame

The lower corners of the my SIV windshield frame is very rusty. When taking the windshield apart I found what looks like some kind of bakelite plug inserted into the bottom ends of the windshield frame vertical posts. There is a very sticky black goo seeping aroung the "plug". This plug could be some kind of epoxy or sealant that has dried out or it could be a badly eroded base for aligning or levelling the windshield frame on the car. Does anybody know for sure what the "plug" might be and what is that sticky goo seeping out of the vertical rail?

Thanks

Found the same on my cars. Would say it´s just a hardened original sealant plug. From my point of view no obvious purpose and perhaps another reason why water gets trapped there and makes the windscreen frame rot through at the bottom corners. Removed it from all frames during restoration w/o any noticeable impact...
