Restoring Mk1

Have this Mk1 since 1967 and has been parked in a barn (Heated) for some 25years.

I have been working on through the winter and have several questions:

What was the original 260 engine color as delivered. My engine is red, but if I chip off the red, it is blue underneath?

Who is the best supplier of tubular headers and Griffon Radiator?

Thank you in advance for any guidance

Hi Chuck,

Welcome to the forum. If it has been parked since 1967, how many miles are on the speedo? Are you able to post some pictures? All Tiger engines Mk 1 to Mk 2 were painted blue. I can't help you with the headers or radiator.

Actually i think some blocks were black.. there has been some talk of this in some discussion forums. As for headers there are several suppliers.. CAT club, Sunbeam Spcialties and some other MFG's.. i would go for a Fluidyne radiator from dales restorations or perhaps one of rob gurera (sp?) from mod tiger engineering.

Hi Chuck,

Michael's comment was correct (Thanks Michael). The book of norman states the early Mk 1 Tiger's from B9470001 to approximately B382000600 were actually black in colour. Either way, Red is not 'Tiger' correct.

Regards, Robin.

Tiger engines were painted black up to the early B382 vins. I believe the color change to blue happened around the 11-- or 12-- vin numbers My engine, in B382000521, WAS PAINTED BLACK, and is still black after owning it for 40 years! Chuck, if your engine is red it could be a block from another car. Scrape some area lightly to reveal the true color. I have a 1964 289 Mustang engine that is red. I also removed a timimg case cover from a 1964 Comet that was painted factory yellow. On a 65 Tiger, safe bet to go with black paint. Jeff
