How does one repair a broken in have bakelite surround that fits in front of the cubby?

I did the above (two part epoxy) and also drilled out the pieces and inserted tiny metal pins.
When I tried with without the pins, it didn’t hold.

Drill and use fine steel pins then glue and reinforce with epoxy on the inside.
