Question on choke cables

Do choke cables go bad? I installed an NOS cable about 14 years ago. It was always a bit stiff but worked adequately. Lately I've been playing around with the various jets in my Weber carb and the choke cable has decided to simply stop working. When I pull on the knob it now barely moves. It's not in the locked position, and I've tried re-routing it but to no avail.

Time for a new one?

Also, I've never been happy with the routing of the cable - under / around the blower unit - but I don't really see a better way. Any ideas on routing to avoid as many turns and twists as possible?

Thanks for any responses.

Scott, they do not wear out, but the outer sheath (the wire coil) can break. When it does, movement is slight and somewhat erratic. Sounds like you need a new one.
