Plastic Restoration

Does anyone know of a product to use when trying to bring out the color in old plastic parts? My steering wheel and a couple of other plastic parts have faded over the last forty years. While they are still in good working order they look their age.

Thanks

Hi Chris,

If it is bakerlite, you may have hassles bringing out the true colour or if it is plastic, you will also have dramas due to the process/ingredients used in the sixties. You could certainly try painting the parts that are showing their age. The issue being that you would need to prepare the surface correctly, so that it takes properly and then a few coats of clear to protect it. The other option, have it restored professionally.

Regards, Robin.

I've never tried any of the products but apparently there are bakelite reconditioners used for old fountain pen restorations since many of them have bakelite casings
