Do you have the mainshaft that goes from the ID unit to the gearbox? That and the adaptor plate are probably the key components...

The OD could be shot.. But if the mainshaft is ok and you have the adaptor you can buy another OD unit ans fit to another rootes trans

I forgot to mention that there is another transmission still in the car that is available.
