I acquired an extra motor and was told that it was a 1725 but I'd like to be sure because it looks like I'm going to be needing it.The number on the block is B9402926. Am I correct that the B means it's a 1725? Also would appeciate any other info from this number. There was also another B under this number.

From memory (someone will have to check the book), 94XXX denotes a SIV 1592.

The B is not what makes it a 1725, all series alpine motors start with B.

Don't make any determinations by the vin number. The obvious clue is how the oil dipstick is mounted:
1) If it goes right into the block, its a 1725
2) If it goes into the oil pan, its a 1600

OK I thought someone that knew would jump in.

I checked WSM124 (SI to SIV) and it shows that B94XXXXX is a series IV which would be a 3 main 1592.
