Does the kickdown cable on the Borg Warner 35 Auto Transmission push or pull to engage?

Anybody know for sure?

The outer cable is attached to a bracket on the side of the inlet manifold and the inner cable to the throttle linkage. As the throttle opens the inner cable is withdrawn (pulled) which acts on a valve inside the trans. Hope that helps.

Cheers, Lance.

Quite sure it pulls to kick down. Been a while since I adjusted one, but I am quite sure it pulls to engage the kick down. It is critical for proper tranny operation for it to be the correct length. All the info for adjustment can be found in a BW35 manual.

Cable should not be to hard to find as they used these trans. in alot of different cars over the years. Jag, Triumph, Volvo, US Postal jeeps, ect.!

The correct end for the cable is extremely hard to find (it is different from the other BW35 installations). If you have an original cable that is broken keep the cable end and get a new cable made. Once you've got the new cable get the pressures set by a garage that knows what they are doing and has the correct pressure tools. 75psi in each gear and 175psi when you kick-down. Remember it is much more than just a "kick down cable" it is changing the gearbox pressure constantly as you drive. Get it right and an Automatic Alpine is great fun to drive and a nippy car.
