Battery Box Questions, Series II

Our 1962 Alpine was converted to positive ground at some point.

Where is the negative battery cable supposed to ground?
Ours currently goes from the negative battery post to a bolt that goes through the inner side wall of the battery box; with a nut that you can reach up beyond the passenger rear tire.

Is this cable supposed to ground elsewhere?
AND...
What gauge cables are the battery cables supposed to be?

Thanks!

Jennifer, I think you mean your 62 was converted to Neg ground. It was Pos ground when it was built.

And if the Neg terminal is connected to the chassis by a cable bolted to the battery box, that confirms that you have Neg Ground. And that is the original place for the Ground connection (but originally the Pos battery terminal was connected to that bolt).

I'm not sure what the guage of the battery cables, but they should be very big - approximately 1/4 " (eyeball measurement) . The same size cable is used for the ground connection to that bolt, for the long cable that goes from battery to the solenoid, and for the cable from the solenoid to the starter motor. All other cables are significantly smaller.
