As per the title all the running gear is for sale, still has the original twin carb set up. Really not sure what it’s worth but I’d like to see it go to a good home. Think it’s an overdrive car but haven’t had chance to confirm yet (picking up tomorrow) let me know what you need or what you guys think is an achievable price. I don’t want it sitting around.

I’ll get you some pics. It does turn over by hand right now and it “ ran when parked” as they say. Price wise I’m really not sure what these are worth. Hit me with a price that is good for you and fair for me. I’d like to see it get used. Also it appears this car may be a series 1. I thought it was a 2 being a 61 but the convertible top looks like a series 1

kiwichris,

The easiest two ways to tell if series I or II is the VIN or the door's front window guides. The window guides only rise to about a third windshield frame height on series I and full frame height on series II. The VIN starts B90 on series I or B91 on series II.

BTW, the engine serial number is on a flat behind and forward of the oil filter mount. If the engine is original to the car, it will match the car's VIN.

Hope this helps,

OOPS! Sorry 'bout that. "B3" started with sV. I edited my post to correct my mistake .

B91 and full length door guides makes a definite series II.

Yes, that is the serial number location. You probably have an engine or block that was a dealer replacement as those weren't numbered.

If the oil dipstick enters a tube that along the side of the sump, it's probably a 1600. If the dipstick enter a hole in the block flange, it's a 1725.

Hope this helps,

It looks like an early series 3 main bearing engine (dual Zeniths & oil filter). If with a standard tranny value maybe $50. - $100. If a known good overdrive tranny closer to $1000.+ (with all OD accessories (column switch, relay, speedometer, harness, driveshaft).

Wow not a lot then, is it worth trying to get it running??!
I know it is a cliche, but any old car part really is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. $50 to $100 sounds a little light to me, but an engine of unknown condition doesn't have a tremendous amount of value to most people, especially given the cost of shipping one and the costs of rebuilding one. Knowing that it was running might increase the value of it, but again, that depends on how badly someone wants one and how well it runs.

FWIW, a few years ago I sold a SII engine that I knew nothing about to a guy across the country for $250. He then paid another $1000+ to have it crated up and shipped to him. I told him I didn't think it was worth what he was spending, but he had a SII that he wanted to restore and the costs seemed irrelevant to him.

Why would you say series 3? Has the sii manifold.. Not a series 3 with a booster putlet.. Coolimg system is all sII ... The oil filter is a canister type... Same on Si-3 ...

I read it to mean a 3 main engine from an early series (I to III), rather than a 5 main SV engine.
