(Explanation: For many years British colonial administrators issued armbands marked WOG to local natives who were allowed onto government sites overseas, to distinguish them from those who had no business on the site, and stood for Working On Government [project]).

A native worker walked into an overseas branch of a British bank to apply for a loan. When the clerk, whose name was Patrick McDonald (but everyone called him Paddy Mac) asked for some kind of collateral, he pulled out a piece of exquisitely carved wood. The clerk said that he couldn't accept something like this, as he had no idea of its value, saying dismissively, "it's just a nicknack." The man objected loudly, saying that it was a family heirloom, passed down for four generations, and was really valuable.

The manager, coming out of his office, examined the object with an expert eye, and told the clerk: "It's not a nicknack, Paddy Mac, give the wog a loan."
