Hydrodipping Dashboard

Hi, just tried hydrodipping. Thought it turned out pretty good. Cinnamon base paint with redwood hydro transfer. They make all kinds of patterns, like carbon fiber etc. Easy way to get a nice finished look.

Never heard of hydro dipping till now. It's a very interesting craft (wife loves crafts) with lots of possibilities.
Did you use a film? Could you explain your process on this beautiful dash?

First you sand it down and spray your base color ( it shows through the film) in this case i used Cinnamon rustoleum spray paint. Then you heat a tub of water to 90 degrees. Lay the film on top for one minute. Then you spray an activator on the film wait half a minute and dip the piece. After, you rinse and put on clear coat. Best to watch a video. Film was called cherry wood or redwood forget which, but ther are many finishes available

Looks great! You did a good job for a novice. Had my done with a Burlwood Print a couple years ago by a guy in Fargo, ND. Clear coated with a satin finish so it doesn't shine or reflect so bad. Original Series V on left with bakelit dash covered with original vinyl.

I like the idea of tying in the cubby surround. Give it another go mate.

Timber effect is cheaper (and more interesting) than a new GT dash, it needed a spruce ;) up anyway.
Cleaned off the print with meths (denatured alcohol) ready to give it another go in the bath when the wife's at work.

I take it she doesn't know you're using the bath for car parts!! I had my engine in my tub once, but that was in the 80's before I was married. It looks like that combination is going to look very pretty.

I have two new quality-made burlwood GT Tiger dashes available, one with a matching cubby door and the other without. I'll be offering them here first before I list on FB or elsewhere. Maybe yet this week.

If postage wasn't such a total sh1tshow from states at the moment I'd be interested.... Our club president helped me with a box in late November... Postage was eye watering.. and I'm used to sending things.. between that and the currency conversion... It's choose very wisely these days.... Urgh... :(
