Do these style reverse light require cutting holes or do they need a base to fit them?

the answer to that question is both. They require bases to mount them.. and require 2 screw holes and a hole for the wire and bulb socket per lamp.

And a nickel sized hole for the center nipple as these are NOT the right lamps for the Alpine and Tiger but can be made to fit.
