Distributor and drive dog

I sent my distributor off to be rebuilt. UPS lost it. In a bad way. So can anyone give me info or a picture of the tach drive at the bottom of the distributor? I need to find another and need to know what I am looking for. Thanks

The Parts Manual is showing parts 241, 245, 246, 247 as being the same for series 1 through 3.

Parts Manual pages W16 & W17 show different distributor revisions being used across the series. Not sure what differences there were. Maybe the differences will be moot if you are getting the distributor rebuilt and the timing curve updated. It looks like they were all Lucas 25D4 models. Some variations early on between vertical outlets and horizontal outlets.

The oil pump is different for the Series I,Ii,III compared to the Series IV. The pump is longer (presumably because of the cable rev counter drive). I recently fitted a Series II pump into a Series iV because I could not get a Series IV pump anywhere. To fit it I used an old Series II pedestal, removed the gear drive, tapped the end and put a polished bolt into it. It works perfectly and only someone who knows Alpines would realise that it is not standard. The distributor just sits about ½" higher than it should do.

Thanks for the pics.

By way of an update. I have now made a spacer that fits between the pedestal and the distributor mounting plate. This lets me use the original Series IV pedestal. It looks neater and works perfectly. It lifts the mount by about 5mm and compensates for the longer oil pump.

Hi Tim,

What is the material of the spacer and how did you fabricate it? Did you cut the outline of the shape and then drill the 3 holes?

Thanks,
Mike

It is a piece of mild steel plate. I drew around the pedestal then cut it with an angle grinder and drill. Then I made a paper gasket to ensure that it stays oil tight. It works very well. Anyone with better facilities than I have would have made a smarter job but it does what it needs to do.
