Last week I took my #2 Alpine to the body shop to get the rear fender cut off and replaced. (It had been pushed in pretty bad and the prior owner welded on a new panel but he never pulling it back into shape.)
I have had this car for 4 years and I have done a great deal of work on the underside and welding is some floors and patch pieces. My shop is so small that I could never get more than about 3 feet from the car. I could tell that something was amiss when I put the front suspension on the car and the front wheels were out of wack. The right wheel was sitting about 3-4 inches further forward of the left.
When I got the car to the body shop and I could stand back and look at the car from the front, I could see that the whole front end had been hit and the fenders had been replaced but once again they hadn't straightened the main body supports. It looks like the car is turning left when the wheels are facing forward.
Alpine #3. I found another body nearby (676 miles). So this weekend my son and I made a 48 hour road trip to San Diego from Provo, Utah. Drove through snow and cold (-23F) and brought back a great Series II Alpine. It has had some prior modification in the engine bay and the tunnel has been cut. But since this will be a V6 No Problem. The body is almost rust free. I can't see any place that is rusted through and it looks like the floors and rockers are solid.
Can't wait to get to work, but it needs to warm up a bit first. Todays high was 12F.
