The parts book doesn´t tell anything. Does anybody know when exactly the 4 acorn nuts were changed to 4 normal 1/4 UNF nuts on either series I or II ?

My series I had nyloc nuts (on mine since 1964). I have never seen acorn nuts. The later cars had just plain hex nuts

There's been much debate about this in the past. I'm not sure any conclusion was drawn, but it is my belief that they did not come with acorn nuts, but plain nuts, and that owners later added the acorns. The parts book is somewhat silent on the subject, as they are not shown in the breakdown for the rocker cover, but in later pages where the rocker cover is shown in shadow drawings you can see they are not acorn nuts.
