2.8 with C4 Auto question

Hi,
I'm doing a conversion, on a V6 converted cart, from a T-5 to a C4 automatic
and am having trouble getting the starter to mount up correctly on the auto bell housing.
The bolt holes seem to be ok, but the strap that holds the top cover on is fouling on the oil pan.
It's actually just the clamp bolt that fouls, but the strap can't be rotated away from the pan as
it won't hold the top cover on it I do so.

Has anyone that has converted their car to run the C4 had this issue? I'm starting to think that there
might be a different starter for the automatic vs the manual trans .

Any help/experience would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers!

Steve, don't have a clue, but I do have a suggestion. Go to Rockauto.com, look up years/models/trans that pertain to your project and compare starter numbers.

Thanks Bill, I did just that, but they don't ask which trans for the starter, so they show just one.
I'm still looking and will see if I missed something there.
Thanks for your input! I really appreciate it!
Cheers!

I just came back from my favorite parts store. At first they thought the same thing, different starters.
As he was looking it up to confirm, he told me that there was just one for either application. Interestingly,
the new starters don't have the band on them. That may be the way we have to go with this. I'm going
to try removing the band and see how that fits.

Thanks for your input!!

I'll report back with my findings!
Cheers!

Well, doesn't fit any better without the band. The funny thing is that the spacer will fit in the
space through the block plate, but with the starter, it just doesn't fit. I may have to take some metal off
the block plate to make it fit.

I'll keep everyone posted!
Cheers.

Well, I got the starter to bolt in today. It's in without the spacer and actually fits nicely.
I just hope it works as well as it fits. Does anyone know if this application needs a spacer?
Thanks again for everyones input so far!
Cheers!
