Question: Series V - repalcing pinion seal and axle seals and cleaned up the casing with degreaser and noticed that they is a 2"-3" wide paint brush of yellow paint right at the breather location. It looks factory -- anyone know what it meant 40 some years ago:confused::confused:. Just curious:)

The yellow colour ( note english spelling ) indicates that only assembly line worker John was allowed to sit on that pallet of axles to eat lunch.
Sorry!!!!
Chuck.

Amazing that you knew that trivia, Chuck. But do you know WHY it's yellow?

John was rather a messy bloke, and it's from the mustard in his sandwich. Every damned axle got smeared with it. Tried to fire him, but it was a union shop.
