Wheel Suggestions

Hi All,

I am looking to get a new set of wheels for the SV, maybe to share with the SII on special occasions. Anyone have any suggestions, apart from the minilites and clones? The Fentons currently on the SV are too big, and I don't like the look.

Thanks, James

James,

I can think of some great period wheels being reproduced.. question is do you want 13, 14 or 15"? and what $ are you looking at?

At the risk of heisting this thread, I'd like to know about some 15" wheels that would fit a Series 5. If they looked like Minilites I could become enthusiastic.

Apologies to James,

Sorry for the Hijack...
Yes, I am running 15x6 Minilites with a 4" backspace (coulda/woulda made them 4.25" backspace) on my Series V. Cost was the same as the Panasport but lead-time was greater.

I was still thinking of 13". I like the minilites and the clones, but am interested in other possibilities.

$$; I would probably buy the clones before the original minilites.

Thanks, James

AJ, if you decide to do 14'' I would suggest looking at early 80's Porsche 924 wheels. They are cheap, got mine for $20.00@ and spent another few removing a little meat on the inside hub so it would go completely against the Alpine hub on front. You have to do all four in order to rotate tires. They are alloy and finish out really well using Duplicolor wheel finish and clear. I don't know the details on offset but by looks it is very close to the Alpine wheel.

wheel alternatives

Gentlemen: I kind of like the simple look of the 60's spider wheel. This doesn't seem attainable for a 13" alpine rim. I just found a company that might have what I want and it is a two ear or three ear chrome ( boltable or screw on)spinner, kind of like the halibrand spinner look. In my case I will have color cooridinated alpine steel wheels with 4 chrome lugs and a chrome spinner atop a chrome spinner tower. Maybe I'm weird as well as cheap.....cost is about 50.00. Google Spinner Center, Meridian, Miss.

So it seems like my options are limited at 13". Does changing to 14" cause any issues?

in short.. yes..

14" opens up about 4 different versions of PS wheel designs, image wheels (BRM style, Halibrand sunburst and warrior style), compomotive (alfa GTA style, campagnolo, dunlop drilled style) and a variety of period aftermarkets you will find on ebay for escorts etc.. cosmic alloys, JA peirce, rostyle etc

The reason I ask about issues with 14" wheels, is that the 13" x 6" Fenton mags with 205 x 60 tires rub against the body when sharp turning. This is even with a somewhat raised suspension. I am guessing it's just the low profile but always looking for opinions.

I have found that there are fewer tire options with 14" wheels than with 13" ones. You can alway run 185/60/13 on the front and 205/60/13 on the back to help with the rubbing and to make turning a bit easier.

has anyone here used wheel hub adapter? they are not very costly to convert 4.25 to 4.5? which open up mant options like mgb and mustang wheels as well as older pre 87 saabs to name a few? i am wondering how much these hub spacers move the wheels outward?
