Weber DCOE float setting question

I have been plagued by flooding problems with my 40 DCOEs and I've set the floats at 7.5mm as per the manual and the problem continues with the float bowls over filling and then the excess gas seeps into the choke causing me to run rich at idle no matter what jet size or idle adjustment I run.

I know that the manual states that 7.5mm is "normal" and should work with "most" situations I was wondering if say 8 or 8.5mm might be a better setting.

I am using the Weber/Dellorto Tuning Manual and it says to set the floats as the just start to touch the ball on my needle but I think maybe it should be 7.5 with it completely closed.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

under 2 lbs

I use a carter pump with a weber fuel pressure regulator.

Pressure is adjusted to just under 2 lbs.

HI Eric,

Make sure that there is no gunk stopping your needles seating correctly. Make sure that the floats are in good condition and are not leaking causing the float to be kept down. If you have the Weber/Dellorto manual it has some checks to go through. Failing that, do you have a Weber specialist nearby?

Regards, Robin.

Sometimes you can raise or lower a float setting from the book spec to over come small problems. Worse case it does not help and you put it back.

The Weber/Dellorto Tuning Manual says 7.5 is the recommended starting point and that's where I had it.

I found a Weber spec sheet online and it says 8.5. I set mine there and it seems to be better.

What I was hoping is that someone else on the list might have remembered what theirs was set at as a lot of us have the same manifolds and similar jetting.

Thanks

Remember that your manifold puts the carbs at an angle, so the normal recomendations are all out the window.

There is a method to set the float levels with a dipstick down the emulsions wells because the bottom line to fuel level is to fill the emulsion tubes to a specific level, which is what makes the progression work correctly.

I do not recall the specifics, but I''d experiment a little, then make sure each carb has the same level as determined by the well fuel height.

The OER 45mm carbs I have now are wonderful for this, they have an external float level adjustment, so its a VERY easy job.

I saw a tuning tip for a MG that talked of measuring the fuel depth like you said.
I'll have to find it again and see what it said for a baseline depth.

By the way did you get my PM regarding fuel pumps?

Thanks
