Tacho error

Regarding the tacho of my Sunbeam Rapier series 4, which is the same set up as for the Alpine series 4, I have an error which I have no idea of what can be the cause.
If I switch on the ignition the needle of tacho goes straight to 600 rpm and stays there, when I start the engine all is well again. The tacho is behaving then as it should. About a year ago the tacho has been sent to a specialist in order to repair a swinging needle and also for converting it to adapt with electronic ignition.
The error of the needle jumping to 600 rpm while only the igniton is on was noticed by me this week after I took the car out of hibernation (it was parked in a so called Carcoon). While I had some trouble freeing the clutch driven plate which had fastened itself to the flywheel I was sitting in the car and had to start the engine several times in order to free the clutch plate. So I was sitting there some time and had all the time of the world to look at the dashbord and by doing so noticing this error. So the error might have been there all the time after the tacho was overhauled while I did not notice this error.
The question is: what is the cause of this error? I guess there is some mistake in the wiring but to be honestly I have no clue. So any help on this one is much appreciated by me. Thanks in advance!

Peter

Check the direction and the number of loops on the white wire on the back of the tach. Make sure there is no other wires or any grounding going on at the pick up area of the tach.

Thank you George for your reply, but....is it not that the white wire whit its loops is not necessary any longer because the Tacho is converted to adapt electronic ignition (from RVI to RVC) ?

Never heard of this I have electronic ignition on my SV with stock tach and still need to have the loops on the back of the tach? Good luck

Peter, My guess is that the circuit in your tach has been changed significantly or changed entirely such that it is impossible to guess what's going on without knowing what's inside.

A suggestion....

Peter, Remove the tach and send to Tom H, Considered and experienced Gent for tach's. He has done a couple for me! I am very happy with his work....

Hi Dan,

I agree with you that Tom is thé expert regarding tachometers. I have been in contact with Tom before and when he is saying that it is in this situation impossible to guess what causes the error I believe him with no hesitation.
So I have just to live with this tiny error, after all it shows only when I switch on the iginiton. As soon as the engine is running all is well again.
So thank you gents for trying to help me, I much appreciate it!

Regards,

Peter
