What is the function of the rear suspension strap on the Alpine?

Supposed to stop the rear axle moving beyond the limit of travel of the lever action shocks. I dont know what wouild bend or break in them, but it might be nasty. Or might not.

Were they only fitted to those Alpines with lever-arm shocks?
Can I remove them now that I've fitted telescopic?
Mine look a bit scruffy, and I was wondering about getting new ones but perhaps there is no point...

Only S1 and S2 Alpines had them. We have reproduced these straps and are available from Trevor Fay in Australia. He lists them on eBay from time to time.

Trevor is a good guy and easy to deal with. THese straps fit perfectly and are exact repros made from the same materials as original.

mine old ones came out no problemo, just fell apart!
