Series 5 Dash

Steve,
I don't know if I used the "correct" vinyl on my dash, but I went to a local car upholstery place and bought some thing that looked similar. I don't know if you want to know how I approached the problem, but my sequence was....

I cleaned the base dash, scuffed it with coarse sandpaper, applied spray adhesive, laid it down on the backside of the vinyl, and loaded a bunch of bricks on top to ensure a good bond against the dash face.

After letting the face dry for 2 d, I wrapped the vinyl up the edges and cut darts to ensure as smooth a fit as possible. I also cut a wood template for the concave portions of the dash so that when clamped it would push the vinyl against the dash edge. Again I applied adhesive, wrapped the vinyl around the edge, applied the wood template and some small spring clips to hold everything in place and allowed it to dry for two days.

Once dry, I removed the clips and using a scalpel with a fresh blade to cut the vinyl out of the gauge openings and then touched up any areas that needed re-glueing. After re-installing the gauges things looked pretty good (certainly better than what I started with!).
