Rubber timing cover gasket

The SIV's late SV engine (R.I.P.) had a rubber timing cover gasket. It sorta looks homemade.

Is anyone using such a gasket?

I wondered if a rubber one would be more leak resistant...

A 0.040" (in that general range and thinner) composite cork & rubber gasket material works pretty well. Its the gasket sealing compound thats the trick to avoid the leaks and getting the metal surfaces very smooth (I use 320/400 sandpaper)
