Remove door lock - Series 5

I want to remove the exterior door handle, but right now I'm inside the door.

A metal rod connects the lock cylinder in the outside handle with the door latch mechanism. I can't see how to "unhook" the metal rod.

Has anyone done this?

Thanks,
Chuck

One of two ways.

Take the screws out of the door latch mechanism on the back of the door freeing it to move. Might also require removing the rear glass channel to move it about enough.
Easier way is to put the window up all the way and remove the exterior handle from the door. One stud with nut inside the door for the front and one screw under the weatherstrip at the back. Once free the handle can move enough to release the kinked end of the rod.
