Rear Springs Series I or II

My parts manual lists the Rear Springs for the Series I and the Serie II as different parts.

Can anyone tell me what the difference is?

The series 1 and two rear springs are the lever arm type. They can be re built. Mine were done by Apple Hydraulics.

Steve Kirk addressed the SHOCKS, which are lever arm type by Armstrong, but the question concerned the SPRINGS.

From dim memory the difference is they added a leaf or two to the Series II and made them wider, resulting in greater stability.

Scott is right. S1 springs are about 1.5" wide and S2 springs are about 2.5" wide. That's from memory and may not be exact dimensions.

I misread the original question.

If I am correct the early series 2 cars still had the smaller springs?

Does any one know at what point the Series II rear springs got wider? And, are they wider at the mounting points or just through the body of the springs.

I just ran outside and measured mine. Pretty sure they're original - I need to replace cause I've got this "great" floating sensation as i drive down the road. LOL!

Anyway, leaf spring width = 2 1/4 inches. I've got an early Series 2 with VIN B9102118 LRX OD produced around Dec 7th 1960. (site indicated 12/5 - 12/9 and I extrapolated to guess actual day...)
