Rear Emergency (Hand) Brake Crossbar

Yesterday, in disassembling my rear axle to R&R it, I noticed that my emergency hand-brake crossbar has a bend in it. I cannot recall if this bar was straight or has always had this bend, and I have no other bar to compare it with. I also looked in the parts book and could not find this illustrated.

My question is, should this bar be straight or should it, indeed, have this light bend in it?

The bend can be seen in this photo, to the right side, near where the bar goes through the guide bracket. It is an arching bend.

I have a S V I just finished doing my rear brakes and my brake rod had a slight bend to it also

To be more clear, this, specifically, is the bend I'm concerned about. There is, indeed, a further z-bend found after the cable attachment bracket, and I believe that to be normal and is shown in Mike's photo as well.

Yeah, that’s kinda what I thought would be the case. Okeydokey... our it comes... and onto the anvil.

Kevin,

My brake rod does not have that bend in the circle.

Thanks, Mike. I do wonder how mine (and Scott's) got bent?

BTW, you're missing the rubber grommet for the hole where the bar goes through the guide bracket. It's just a standard grommet - I think I got a replacement at Lowes or some such place, and then bored out the centre to suit.

Kevin,

Thanks for pointing out the missing grommet. The grommet probably crumbled and fell out. I'll add that to my to-do list!
