OWS in DC

So, personally, I think this could go in Chit-Chat, but I'm putting it here, just to be safe.
I offer this w/o much commentary.
My buddy Steve and I are actually natives of DC and have been around for a lot of protests. I've got to say the OWS "protest" in DC is the sorryest lot of "protesters" I've ever seen. Personally, from all the hype, I thought when I got out of the Metro @ McPherson Sq I'd be hit over the head w/a cacophony of noise, rats, and stench. What I found was a deserted "tent jumble". There seemed to be more people taking pictures, than protesters. Although, they have trampled the grass, (costing the city probably a couple of hundred K, at McPhersons, it didn't look that bad, as far as hygine is concerned. There were a couple of port-o-pots and I asked the cops what they thought about my using them...they recommended against it. I followed their advice. Since the Freedom Plaza group is camped on paving, a high pressure hose should be a pretty quick way to clean it up.
Really, as DC protests go, this is about the wimpiest I've ever seen.

Contrast this with the Tea Party Movement, so scorned and vilified by the Dems, liberals and the Left in general. Quiet, peaceful meetings and parades, no violence, and no litter afterward.

Barry must be putting a lot of pressure on the park service. Neither encampment is w/in sight of the White House. They were supposed to be evicted Monday...they are still there. Like I said, there were very few occupants of those tents. Since when do empty tents have a "right to protest". If tear gas was good enough for my generations "peaceful riots" why isn't it good enough for them? I still have my gas mask around here somewhere. Although it's almost 70* here today, I'm still hoping we get a 2-3ft blizzard dumped on us, and watch thoses things collapse...hopefully there will be a couple of Darwin award nominees, occupying @ the time. What I don't understand is why the merchants and residents down there don't sue OWS.
The Tea Party had to pay "fees" to protest, these "people" aren't being charged anything. IMO this is just a recrutment program, for the riots this summer.

The Senate passed a bill Friday and sent it to the house to eliminate the lawmakers exemption to insider trading. It didn't even make a news blip. Three senators actually voted against it. Washington is where the action is. It's Washington that's got us $15 trillion in debt (and counting) and it's Washington that gives us these rules with thousands of exceptions for those that qualify and it's back to basics in Washington that'll get us out of debt and give the next generation a little bit more hope than they're getting from this debt and spending nightmare that will eventually give us higher inflation if we don't reel in this mentality that the government is the solution from cradle to grave.

What really does a North Korean endorsement mean? I mean, the old or new guy either one isn't relevant to poop. Unless they start bothering other people that have things.

Term limits!!!

Representatives and Senators alike should be limited the same way as the president is, and for the same reason - four years, limit of one reelection. Membership of the House of Representatives was never intended by the Founding Fathers to be a career. A man was supposed to leave his farm, law office, haberdasher's shop etc. and serve, being paid enough to cover expenses such somewhere in DC to lay his head, and travel to and around his consituency. Then he was to return whence he came. Senators were, of course, not elected originally.

The present system of a two year hitch, infinitely extended, opens the door to special interests and big donors essentially bribing our congressmen. An newly elected, or reelected, member begins his reelection campaign almost immediately. In addition, both Representatives and Senators are too scared of losing the next time to enact needed but impossible (and/or politically incorrect) legislation, which is why federal spending is out of control.
