What make/type of overdrive was used in the Sunbeam Alpine and Tiger? Was there a relay in the circuit from the factory?

Thanks,

The overdrive used in the Alpine was a Laycock de Normanville D type BUT is has some unique to Rootes features that mean that the D type overdrive from an MG or Triumph or others won't fit. These differeces are:

A sliding yoke in the rear - most others used a fixed flange
The shaft and splines on the Rootes gearbox were different to those used by other manufacturers.

There was a relay. There were two types. The early one was used with an overdrive switch that had 2 positions, the later type with a switch that was spring load return to centre type.

No overdrive was fitted to the Tiger.
