Original equipment dampers

moonstone SIV

Donation Time
Well, after 18 months on axle stands during which time I performed a very leisurely O/D trans. swap and detailed under the bonnet, my SIV GT was finally set back on the garage floor. At this point I discovered that one of the front dampers had gone slightly soft so I removed them both to investigate.

What I found is a pair of OE Armstrong shockers dated 4/64 (my car has a build date of July 1964), with GT printed on the outer case in white paint. My first reaction was thinking maybe the items fitted to the GT were of a different rating, yet the parts book doesn't differentiate between the GT and ST. Anyone found anything like this before or have any thoughts?
