One Cam Bearing

I need one new cam bearing for a 1725. I have two new ones, and don't really want to buy a full set if I don't need to. Yeah, my mechanic last time buggered one up, so had to buy a set. So, of course now I have a need for a full set. I know a new set is only $29.95 plus shipping. But just maybe....................

I have a ton of NOS parts, cam bearings included but still fairly new to Alpines so a part number would help and I can send you one free of charge if I have it in the stash.

The Rootes parts books show one cam bearing with the same part number for all engines. There are no non standard sizes available for Alpines.

So Beam, can you give us that part#? Thanks in advance.

OK, brings up an interesting question though. When you send out your cam for a regrind those cam journals (don't know if that's the correct name) are going to get at the minimum a touch up, what does that do to the tolerances and would it affect the oil pressure? Or is Close, Close enuf?

Good question. I have after market parts catalogs going back to 1970 and they list only " cam bearings " with no notations showing anything but standard size. The same in all of my Rootes parts books. SS and Classic only show one part number. The last time I had a cam reground was 1970 when Paeco built my race engine and there was no mention of different size cam bearings. I'm sure someone that has recently had a regrind has an answer to your question.

I called Delta Cam and asked about the cam journals that ride in the bearings. They said they never resurface them. They do polish them . They said they hardly ever find more than 1/1000 of wear. Usually less than that. Probably why there are only standard size bearings being sold.

That's a real good thing to know. Thanks for taking the time to find that out and reporting it. Now I just need a cam bearing to go with my other two new ones.

Sunbeam Specialties is out of Cam Bearings, doesn't know when they'll get any in. Still looking for at least one new Cam bearing. If you have a full set, I'll spring for that also.

Jim,
Send me a mailing address and I will send you a bearing. I have one in my stock of "how did I end up with all of this" parts.
