I just bought a 61 alpine it had a 85 astro vav 4 speed and 2.5 (iron duke) engine. The old rear end was kept (3.89 gears). The astro van had a 2.73 geared rear end.Its fun to drive around town but really need to get it to run highway speeds.Any one have a idea for the easyest and least expence fix?I have limited funds and am a part changer only. The simpler the better. The shifter works very well and looks like it was made for car. It has mustang two wheels that I would like to keep if possiable.End goal is dependable car I can enjoy driveing on good days and afford gas.would really appracate any advice I can get.THANK YOU NOLEGEND59.

Probably the easiest, least expensive would be a 5 speed. 5th is usually a 20% overdrive. But I have no idea what is available for the Iron Duke or what would be involved with the swap.
