I came across an Alpine S4 yesterday that had an engine that I did not recognize. It appears to be the one depicted on page 31 of the old Haynes Sunbeam and Singer manual. The car owner had bought the car as a project several years ago ( and it would be a serious project), and thought the engine was original. It is not like the one in my S4, so I could not find the numbers in the location near the fuel pump. So what is this thing? Sorry, I didn't have a camera with me.

You have an iron head Minx (sedan) engine. That's the wrong engine.
(I have the same book)

If an iron head engine, the serial number should be on the same block pad.

if the sn was there, it was well protected by a hardened layer of grease. I didnt have a flashlight either.
