Hi Michael,

Great bunch of action photo's of the LeMans Alpine's. They are the first photo's that I have seen with the grill area painted.

Was this one of the prototypes?
I recall seeing drawings of the concept cars with the encapsulated headlights but I didn't know any had ever been actually built.
Cool stuff!

They did that for some of the racers. The Index of thermal efficiency Harrington had the headlamps enclosed also.

 

[64beam]

The photo in question is the Le Mans Alpine (3000 RW) which had the encapsulated headlight, and the only Alpine to have had this modification. That was the Alpine that won the 1961 Le Mans thermal efficency award.
