Head Gasket To Spray or not to spray??

I know I sprayed my last head gasket with copper gasket spray and I've heard of others that have done it as well but my machinist said that with a properly torqued head it was unnecessary so unless some one can think of a good reason to use it , or not, I'm going to try it without.
