gearbox compatability

Does anyone know if a Humber Sceptre O/D gearbox will fit a S2. It looks the same but does it have the same number of splines etc

Jon, as far as I'm aware the early Sceptre (pre Arrow range) uses the same clutch plate as the Alpine, so the splines on the input shafts of both gearboxes are the same. Again, to the extent of my knowledge the OD gearboxes (with floor mounted gearshift) from most Rootes cars using the (pre Arrow) 1600/1725cc engine should fit an Alpine without any trouble.

Hope this helps

If it's a Mk1 Sceptre from the same time as the S2 it should be OK, The later Mk2 may have a different spline count and the Arrow-based Mk3 is different again (particularly in its mounting arrangements)

Cheers, Vic
